The IBEW aptitude test felt different from the IUEC test.
The biggest difference was the sections.
The IUEC test I took included reading, math, mechanical comprehension, and tool identification. The IBEW test was more focused. For me, it was reading and math.
No mechanical section.
No tool identification.
That does not mean it was easy.
It just meant the study target was clearer.
The reading section felt manageable for me again. Reading has been one of the sections where I feel most comfortable, so I saw it as a chance to collect points.
Math was the part I respected.
After the IUEC test, I already knew that timed math can feel very different from practice math. I used the same general approach: timed practice, review the basics, and do not let one hard problem eat the whole section.
I used a structured practice course again because that works better for me. I need something that feeds me the problems and keeps me moving. That is just how I study best.
But you can study for free.
YouTube has plenty of trade aptitude practice. Search for IBEW aptitude test math, algebra review, reading comprehension practice, and timed test strategies.
The important part is not the platform.
The important part is doing the work.
If you are comparing the tests, here is how I would think about it:
The IUEC test felt broader.
The IBEW test felt more concentrated.
Both required time management.
Both rewarded preparation.
Both were easier to face because I had practiced under a timer.
One thing carried over directly from IUEC: skip, finish, return.
If a math question looked like it would take too long, I moved on and came back later.
That strategy helped again.
By the time I left the IBEW test, I felt better than I did after IUEC. I thought I passed, but I still did not know how well.
That is another thing to get used to.
Sometimes you leave with a feeling.
Then you wait for the email.
