For the IBEW aptitude test, I kept my study plan simple.
Reading and math.
That was the test format I was preparing for, so I did not spread myself too thin.
The reading section was mostly about staying focused and not rushing. Read the question. Read the passage. Do not assume the answer before checking the text.
Math needed more work.
I focused on the basics:
- Algebra
- Fractions
- Decimals
- Percentages
- Number patterns
- Word problems
- Working without a calculator
The biggest thing was timed practice.
I keep coming back to that because it matters. A question can feel easy when you are sitting at home with no clock and no pressure. It feels different when the timer is running and you know there are more questions waiting.
I used a paid practice course because I know I do better with structure. It gave me a clear path and timed tests. That helped me stay consistent.
But paying is not required.

Search for trade aptitude math practice, IBEW aptitude test practice, algebra basics, and reading comprehension practice. The material is out there.
The part you have to bring is consistency.
If you are starting from scratch, I would not try to cram everything in one night. Give yourself time to remember how math works. A lot of us have not done this kind of math in years.
That was true for me.
It came back, but not instantly.
I also practiced my test strategy:
Answer what I know.
Skip what slows me down.
Come back at the end.
Guess rather than leave blanks.
That made me feel more controlled during the test.
Not calm exactly.
Just less scattered.
When I got the email saying I passed, I was relieved. But I also understood that passing only got me to the interview.
The test mattered.
The interview would matter too.
